If you find the wanted domain name has expired, it does not mean you can make it yours by simply buy that domain name from domain registrar. It is not that simple. Before drop and available to public, domain will enter expired period (around 35 days) and redemption period (around 35 days too). You can wait until the domain realy drop and available as your reborn baby. But if that name is very important for you or your company, you can not just wait like that. It is posible you have competitors whose also watching that beautiful dropping domain name. For better chance, you can contact the domain registrar (you can get the domain registrar data via whois service) to ask for backorder for this name. Fyi, many registrar run auctions for dropping domains. There are lot of articles on internet with detailed information about how to snap/buy expiring or expired domain name.
